The California Institute of Technology is a world-renowned science and engineering research and education institution. About 90% of students at Caltech participate in research as part of their academic program. The school features five NASA facilities on campus, including its Jet Propulsion Laboratory—the leading U.S. center for the exploration of the solar system. While Caltech is committed to meeting all demonstrated financial needs, the institute does not offer merit scholarships—all scholarships and grants are entirely need-based. Without a Greek system or classical dormitories, Caltech created its own form of community through a system of eight houses and three undergraduate residences.
