The University of São Paulo is a Brazilian public university, considered as one of the country’s more prestigious educational institutions. Founded in 1984 through the integration of existing schools, USP has been known as the largest Brazilian public university, and is one of the largest institutions of higher education in Latin America. USP is also Brazil’s largest research institution, with approximately 90,000 enrolled students in 11 campuses, with the university also housing five affiliated hospitals, 24 museums and galleries – with half a million visitors per year – two theatres, a cinema, and its own TV channel run by students. The University of São Paulo ranked 100 worldwide in reputation by the Times Higher Education World University Rankings.
