George Danezis is a well-known computer scientist and the Professor of Security and Privacy Engineering at the Department of Computer Science, University College London. He also serves as the Co-Founder and Chief Scientist of Mysten Labs, the Web3 company behind the Sui blockchain. Danezis has been working on anonymous communications, privacy enhancing technologies (PET), and traffic analysis since 2000. His current research interests focus around secure communications, high-integrity systems to support privacy, blockchains and decentralization, as well as the application of machine learning techniques to security problems. Earlier in his career, he worked as a Research Scientist at Facebook, contributing to the Novi team. He also advised at Vega Protocol, and co-founded Chainspace, leading as Head of Research for almost a year.

In 2021, Danezis departed and co-founded Mysten Labs to commercialize his research as part of the Sui smart contracts platform.
He is a co-designer and engineer for the Sui smart contract platform. He is also the co-designer of the Narwhal / Tusk consensus core.
He serves as the Co-Founder and member of the business leadership team.
His theoretical contributions to the Privacy Technologies field include the established information theoretic and other probabilistic metrics for anonymity and pioneering the study of statistical attacks against anonymity systems.
He is one of the lead designers of the anonymous mail system Mixminion, as well as Minx, Sphinx, Drac and Hornet; he has worked on the traffic analysis of deployed protocols such as Tor.
ACADEME
Danezis has been a Professor of security and privacy engineering since 2016 and previously served as a Reader in Security and Privacy Engineering.
He also served as a Researcher at Microsoft Research Cambridge, starting as a Postdoctoral Researcher.
Before that, he was a Visiting Fellow at K.U. Leuven and held roles at Cambridge University.
He completed his doctoral dissertation under the supervision of Prof. R.J. Anderson.
