William H. Gates, popularly known as Bill Gates, is a business magnate, investor, entrepreneur, technologist, business leader, and philanthropist, known as one of, if not the most successful entrepreneur of the 20th century. Co-founder of the world’s largest software business, Microsoft, with Paul Allen, he is one of the best-known entrepreneurs and pioneers of the microcomputer revolution of the 1970s and 1980s. Through technological innovation, keen business strategy and aggressive business tactics, Gates has become one of the richest men in the world. In February 2014, Gates announced that he was stepping down as Microsoft's chairman to focus on charitable work at his foundation, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, but he still remained on the board and began serving as technology advisor.
