Joe Raia is the Chief Commercial Officer at Abaxx Exchange, a Singapore-based, regulated commodity futures exchange focused on modernizing global commodity markets. With more than 25 years of experience across physical and financial commodities, Raia oversees all global commercial relationships, including trading firms, clearing brokers, and execution brokers. He is a highly regarded industry leader known for his contributions to major commodities conferences and market structure initiatives. Prior to joining Abaxx, Raia served as Managing Director and Global Head of Energy Markets at J. O’Brien & Associates, and previously held senior leadership roles at Goldman Sachs, where he was Managing Director and Head of Global Commodity Futures Clearing. Over the course of his career, he has played a pivotal role in the development and launch of several of the world’s most successful trading platforms, including NYMEX ClearPort, which ultimately generated more than $400 million annually in high-margin revenue.

Joe Raia’s early career was shaped by senior leadership roles at CME Group and NYMEX, where he helped design and execute the exchanges’ global commodity expansion strategy, including establishing and operating offices in Singapore, London, Houston, and Calgary.
During this period, he was directly responsible for the development and launch of landmark trading venues such as NYMEX’s Green Exchange and the Dubai Mercantile Exchange, while also overseeing the creation and rollout of more than 2,000 new products on the NYMEX ClearPort platform.
Widely recognized as a thought leader in commodity market structure and exchange innovation, Raia is a frequent contributor to major industry events, including Futures Industry Association (FIA) conferences in Singapore, Chicago, and Boca Raton.
He has appeared multiple times on CNBC and regularly presents and moderates discussions with senior industry leaders at global forums such as LDC Natural Gas Forums, FT Commodities conferences, APEC events in Singapore, and International Petroleum Week in London.
