Sebastian Bürgel
Sebastian Bürgel is one of the world's leading decentralized application architects. He is the Founder and President of HOPR, the Web3 privacy infrastructure. At HOPR, he builds technical solutions that empower the individual and contributes to establishing full stack privacy for Web3. He builds applications for a wide range of industries such as insurance, real estate, finance, biomedical and others, developing a blockchain platform designed to secure data. Prior to HOPR, he also co-founded two other technology startups on blockchain education and financial technology. Before joining the blockchain and cryptocurrency ecosystem, Bürgel was a Postdoctoral Fellow at ETH Zürich in the domain of microtechnology and microfabrication for biomedical applications.

At HOPR, he oversees technical developments at the company and contributes to establishing full stack privacy for Web3.

The platform provides the tools and framework for the Web3 ecosystem, ensuring everyone has control of their privacy, data, and identity as they navigate online.
EARLY CAREER
In 2016, Bürgel co-founded SONECT, an ATM as-a-service provider company. He served as the Chief Technology Officer for SONECT until 2017.
Alongside working for SONECT, Bürgel was also Chief Technology Officer at Validity Labs, providing education-related solutions via blockchain technology.
In 2020, he left Validity Labs to start his latest blockchain project — HOPR.
As one of the world’s top smart contract and solidity developers, he helped draft the DLT (Distributed Ledger Technology) Law in Switzerland.
