Weijian Shan is the Co-Founder and Executive Chairman of PAG, one of Asia’s leading alternative investment firms managing over $50 billion in assets. Recognized as one of the region’s most influential financiers, he has more than 25 years of experience in private equity across the Asia-Pacific and established PAG’s private equity business in 2010. Before launching PAG, Shan was a Partner at TPG Capital and Co-Managing Partner of TPG Asia (formerly Newbridge Capital), where he spearheaded landmark deals that generated billions in returns for investors. His career also includes serving as a Managing Director at J.P. Morgan and teaching as a professor at the Wharton School. In 2010, Shan joined PAG to help establish its private equity business, and now leads the firm which manages billions in capital and drives growth across Asia-Pacific markets.
He has built extensive relationships throughout Asia and has served as an independent director on the boards of some of the region’s leading companies.
He holds influential board roles with Alibaba, Lenovo, Bank of China (Hong Kong), Wilmar International, Taiwan Cement and Baosteel.
EARLY CAREER
Shan led TPG through a number of landmark transactions including the acquisitions of Korea First Bank and China’s Shenzhen Development Bank, both of which made his investors billions of dollars in profits.
He was a Managing Director at JP Morgan, where he was concurrently the Chief Representative for China.
He was an Assistant Professor at the Wharton School and worked at the World Bank as a member of its Young Professionals Program.
