Impeachment Process

Impeachment under the United States Political system is a formal accusation, or indictment.

  • Being impeached does not mean that one is proven guilty or innocent. It is a formal accusation process
  • Once impeached, there is a formal investigation and trial/decision made about guilt/innocence.


Presidential Impeachments

  • The House of Representatives can impeach a President
  • The Senate holds a trial to determine guilt/innocence  of the President
    • Removing a president requires 67 / 100 Senate votes
