David Maria is the Head of Litigation and Regulatory Affairs at Bittrex, a global leader in the blockchain revolution. David’s private practice career has included work in the government investigations and securities practices at several law firms in Washington DC. Prior to joining Bittrex, he was a Principal at Squire Patton Boggs, a full-service global law firm providing insight at the intersection of law, business, and government, where he was a member of the Government Investigations & White Collar Practice. He served as a Federal Prosecutor, both as a Trial Attorney in the Fraud Section of the US Department of Justice's Criminal Division in Washington DC, and as an Assistant US Attorney (AUSA) in the District of Minnesota in the Criminal Division's White Collar and Public Corruption Unit. His experience includes leading multiple internal investigations into potential FCPA violations, including investigations in Latin America, Hong Kong, China and Africa, counselling companies regarding governmental compliance obligations and leading a special committee’s investigation in response to a shareholder derivative suit.
EARLY CAREER
He was an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of Minnesota, where he focused on investigating and prosecuting healthcare, investment fraud, and tax fraud cases.
He served as a Prosecutor in the Fraud Section of the U.S. Department Justice's Criminal Division, where he prosecuted cases in two units.
He was the primary prosecutor on several high-profile cases, including a healthcare fraud investigation into one of the largest US-based hospital systems.
During his time at the Fraud Section and the US Attorney’s Office, he successfully obtained convictions of more than 50 criminal defendants.
