Jon Askonas is a Fellow at the Center for the Study of Statesmanship and Assistant Professor of Politics at the Catholic University of America, where he works on the connections between the republican tradition, technology, and natural security. In addition, he is the Co-founder and Board Member of FollowApp.Care, a provider of AI technology that cares for patients beyond the clinic. Jon is currently working on two books: "A Muse of Fire" and "The Shot in the Dark," and works on essays on the deep political, moral, and practical implications of the volunteer military and on the connection between artificial intelligence research and authoritarian surveillance. He has worked at the Council on Foreign Relations, US Embassy in Moscow, and the Clements Center for National Security at the University of Texas at Austin. His work has been supported by the Beinecke Scholarship, the Smith Richardson Foundation, the Charles Koch Foundation, and the Cyril Foster Fund.
EARLY CAREER
Jon was a research assistant at University of Oxford and Georgetown University.
He was a research intern at both the Council on Foreign Relations and U.S. Department of State.
He was a special projects coordinator at Herring Consulting, where he developed and executed short, middle, and long-term business strategy for the startup.
