Margaret Heffernan is an author, speaker, business leader and Professor of Practice at the University of Bath School of Management. She is the Lead Faculty for the Forward Institute’s Responsible Leadership Program, and mentors CEOs and senior executives of major global organizations through Merryck & Co. Previously, Margaret produced programs for the BBC for 13 years where she wrote, directed, produced and commissioned dozens of documentaries and dramas. She has been invited to speak at all of the world's leading financial services businesses, the leading FTSE and S&P corporations as well as the world's most successful sports teams. She also continues to advise private and public businesses, mentor senior and chief executives and write for the Financial Times and Huffington Post. Today, she writes, speaks and blogs about business leadership, management, innovation and creativity. A well-known keynote speaker, her TED talks have been seen by more than 13 million people.

Academic History

MEDIA & JOURNALISM

  • As a television producer, she made documentaries for Timewatch, Arena, and Newsnight.

  • She was one of the producers of Out of the Doll's House, the prize-winning documentary series about the history of women in the twentieth century.

  • She designed and executive produced a thirteen part series on The French Revolution for the BBC and A&E.

  • She also produced music videos with Virgin Records and the London Chamber Orchestra to raise attention and funds for Unicef's Lebanese fund.


EARLY CAREER

  • She joined CMGI where she ran, bought and sold leading internet businesses.

  • She spearheaded multimedia productions for Intuit, The Learning Company and Standards & Poors.

  • She was CEO of InfoMation Corporation, ZineZone Corporation, and iCast Corporation.

  • She ran trade association IPPA, where she was described as "the most formidable lobbying organization in England."
