Matt Stephenson is a Research Partner at Pantera Capital, the first institutional investment firm focused exclusively on digital assets and companies in the blockchain and crypto ecosystem. Prior to Pantera, he was a Senior Mechanism Designer at BlockScience, where he worked with organizations from Dapper Labs to MakerDAO. He has lectured at Columbia University on DAO governance, with a doctoral thesis focused on price discovery and endogenous value in NFT markets.

Prior to his current role, Stephenson served as Pantera Capital's Head of Research and Cryptoeconomics.
He served as a Senior Behavioral Mechanism Designer at BlockScience and an Advisor and Mentor focused on blockchain for Warwick Incubator.

His academic publications include the Journal of Economic Behavior and Organizations and the Encyclopedia of Behavioral Economics.
In 2018, he wrote up a Schelling point attack that helped win a $12m jackpot on the Ethereum Blockchain, and his 2018 essay on NFTs for Science was recently included in a16z's NFT Canon.
He has been featured in Blockworks, Cointelegraph, and CoinDesk, and was a keynote speaker at the first ever NFT Summit hosted by the Ethereum Foundation.
