Mike Coffin is Head of Oil, Gas & Mining at Carbon Tracker, an independent financial think tank. His team researches and publishes analysis on financial risks through the energy transition, focusing on stranded asset risk and company emissions targets/ambitions and the links through to corporate strategies. Mike focuses on identifying transition risk within the oil and gas industry as the global energy system evolves. In addition, he has co-authored reports to assess impacts at the company level and company climate ambitions. Prior to joining Carbon Tracker, he worked as a geologist for BP on projects across the upstream, working across the value chain from access, exploration & appraisal to production. Mike also has experience working in petroleum basins across the world, including time spent working in Norway, with expertise in unconventional exploration and in leading technical project teams.
EARLY CAREER
At Carbon Tracker, Mike co-authored Breaking the Habit, Balancing the Budget, and Absolute Impact.
He focuses on both macroeconomic and company-specific analysis of companies within the oil and gas sector.
He works alongside other research teams who focus on power and utilities, renewables and regulatory research.
At BP, he had significant exposure to BP's global portfolio, and both technical and geopolitical constraints worldwide.
He has experience leading technical teams to deliver integrated projects to senior leadership within tight timescales.
He has also written on the topics of executive remuneration and verification of company actions.
