Known as a champion and a co-founder of the Federal Reserve, Carter Glass was a Virginia state senator, an eight-term US representative, the US Treasury secretary, and a four-term US senator. Glass was instrumental in shaping the purpose of the Federal Reserve. He was the principal writer of revisions to the Federal Reserve Act in the 1930s. Glass wanted The Fed to be able to help the country through a liquidity crisis, but not be able to print and deflate the currency like a banana republic. He was a co-author of the Glass-Steagall Act.
