James Dondero is the Founder and Principal of NexPoint, an alternative investment platform specializing in real estate. Under his leadership, the company has flourished into a multibillion-dollar organization. With more than thirty years of experience across the alternative investment landscape, Mr. Dondero has built an integrated global network of businesses to manage investments in real estate, credit, and private equity, among other specialized areas. Mr. Dondero holds a variety of roles as director and chief executive officer of NexPoint’s publicly traded REITs. Mr. Dondero, as a committed philanthropist, frequently contributes to nonprofit organizations with strategic initiatives to advance healthcare, education, veterans’ affairs, and community and economic development.
EARLY CAREER AND PHILANTHROPY
James Dondero’s career began at J.P. Morgan as an analyst in 1984, when he was accepted into the Morgan Guaranty training program.
In 1985, James Dondero accepted a corporate bond analyst/portfolio manager position at American Express.
While employed at Protective Life, starting in 1989, Mr. Dondero helped take the company from inception to a $2 billion dollar organization as their Chief Investment Officer.
James Dondero actively contributes to initiatives in education, veterans’ affairs, and community and economic development.
Mr. Dondero has been instrumental in supporting a number of civic and cultural institutions in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
