Jesse Pollak is an engineering whiz and the Creator of Base and Head of Protocols at Coinbase, one of the largest cryptocurrency exchanges today. He leads Base in providing a secure, low-cost, builder-friendly Ethereum L2 built to bring the next billion users on-chain, and leads Coinbase in building, supporting, and integrating protocols into the network’s products. Jesse joined Coinbase as a software engineer and eventually became a leader in scaling their consumer products. He led all of Coinbase's consumer-facing engineering, including building Coinbase, Coinbase Pro, and Coinbase Wallet. He joined the network through the acquisition of Clef, a company he founded and ran for five years that built passwordless identity solutions for cryptocurrency companies.

BASE

  • Jesse is the creator of Base, an Ethereum Layer 2 chain that offers a safe, low-cost, developer-friendly way to build on-chain. 

  • The network provides easy and secure access to Ethereum L1, other L2s, and other L1 ecosystems like Solana, making it possible for anyone, anywhere, to participate in the cryptoeconomy.

  • Base is being incubated by Coinbase, leveraging their experience in building crypto products and planning to progressively decentralize the chain over time.


COINBASE

  • Prior to his current role as Head of Protocols, he served as Coinbase's Senior Director of Engineering and Retail.

  • He managed and led the teams that built retail-focused products at Coinbase, including Coinbase and Coinbase Pro, across web, iOS, and Android.

  • He grew the team to 200+ engineering, all working together to build the primary financial account of the cryptoeconomy.


EARLY CAREER

  • He was the Founder of Clef, where he built and scaled a password-less, two-factor authentication product that attracted a $1.7M seed round.

  • He managed the design and supported teams, technical architecture, infrastructure, and product direction for Clef.

  • Before that, he was a Software Engineering Intern at Buzzfeed, and a Fellow at HackNY.
