Jesse Pollak is a leading blockchain engineer and the Creator of Base as well as Head of Protocols at Coinbase, one of the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchanges. He oversees the development of Base, Coinbase’s secure, low-cost, and developer-friendly Ethereum Layer-2 network designed to scale decentralized applications and help bring the next billion users on-chain. COINBASE

  • Before becoming Head of Protocols, Pollak served as Senior Director of Engineering and Retail at Coinbase, where he managed the teams responsible for building the company’s flagship retail products, including Coinbase and Coinbase Pro, across web, iOS, and Android.

  • He scaled the engineering organization to more than 200 engineers and played a central role in building Coinbase into the primary financial account of the cryptoeconomy.

EARLY CAREER

  • Pollak was the Founder and CEO of Clef, a startup that developed a passwordless, two-factor authentication system that raised a $1.7 million seed round.

  • At Clef, he oversaw product direction, technical architecture, infrastructure, design, and team operations.

  • Earlier in his career, he worked as a Software Engineering Intern at BuzzFeed and was a HackNY Fellow, experiences that helped shape his early technical and entrepreneurial foundation.
