Lee Buchheit
Lee Buchheit retired in 2019 after a 43-year career with Cleary Gottlieb. His practice mainly focused on international and corporate transactions, including sovereign debt management, privatization, project finance, and Eurocurrency financial transactions. He is a recognized world expert in sovereign debt restructuring. Buchheit has worked on debt restructuring in numerous emerging markets countries, including Argentina, Greece, and Venezuela. Buchheit is also the author of two books in international law and over 40 articles on professional matters.

- Buchheit has practiced law in Washington DC, London, New York, and Hong Kong.
- He is a member of the Bars in New York and Pennsylvania.
- He is currently engaged by the Interim Government of Venezuela, led by President Juan Guaidó, as a strategic advisor to assist in preparing for the restructuring of the country’s foreign debt.
- He led the legal teams advising the Republic of Iraq in the restructuring of that country's Saddam era indebtedness as well as the restructuring of over EUR 200 billion of bond indebtedness of the Hellenic Republic—the two largest sovereign debt workouts in history.
- He has been involved in resolving almost every sovereign bankruptcy that has occurred in the last four decades, from Mexico and Russia in the 1980s and 1990s to Greece and Argentina more recently.
- He has worked on the sovereign debt restructurings of over two dozen countries, normally as counsel to the sovereign debtor.
