Marta Belcher is a civil liberties and cryptocurrency attorney, and General Counsel and Head of Policy at Protocol Labs, an open-source research, development, and deployment laboratory. In addition, Marta is President and Chair of Filecoin Foundation and Filecoin Foundation for the Decentralized Web. She also serves as special counsel to the Electronic Frontier Foundation. Marta is a leader in the area of blockchain law and a pioneer in cryptocurrency law, where she represents companies, industry associations, and civil liberties organizations in matters related to blockchain and public policy. She has experience working on complex copyright, patent, trademark, trade secret, false advertising, and privacy matters in the Supreme Court, federal appeals courts, and federal district courts. She also advises clients and speaks frequently on the topic of defensive patent licensing strategy. Previously, she was an attorney focusing on blockchain and emerging technologies at Ropes & Gray in San Francisco.

Marta has spoken about blockchain law around the world, including testifying in the New York Senate and speaking in U.S. Congress.
She has appeared in the European Parliament, the OECD, and in Davos during the World Economic Forum.
She has drafted amicus briefs in the U.S. Supreme Court and U.S. appellate courts for high-profile public interest organizations.
Her clients included EFF, the Center for Democracy & Technology, Public Knowledge, the Cato Institute, the National Consumers' League, Project Gutenberg, and the Blockchain Association.
