Paul Grewal is the Chief Legal Officer at Coinbase, the world's most trusted crypto exchange. He is responsible for Coinbase's legal, compliance, global intelligence, risk management and government relations group. Prior to joining Coinbase, he served as Vice President and Deputy General Counsel at Facebook, where he grew his legal team to more than 200 people, overseeing regulatory affairs, litigation, and commercial issues. He was also the U.S. Magistrate Judge for the U.S. District Court of the Northern District of California. Before that, Grewal was a Partner at Howrey LLP and served as a Judicial Law Clerk for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio. In addition to Coinbase, he serves as an Independent Board Director at Epiq, a global leader in the legal services industry.

  • He also served as a member of the court's Technology Practice and Patent Local Rules Committees.

  • He served as a law clerk to Federal Circuit Judge Arthur J. Gajarsa and United States District Judge Sam H. Bell. He tried patent cases in various federal district courts across the country and argued appeals before several federal appellate courts, including the Federal Circuit.

  • He began his career as an intellectual property attorney and as a U.S. Magistrate Judge for the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.
