Peter Clare is the former Chief Investment Officer of Corporate Private Equity and Chairman of the Americas of The Carlyle Group, the private equity giant. Clare joined the firm in 1992 and has held a number of senior leadership roles across the Corporate Private Equity business. He served as CIO of the firm's $105 billion in assets private equity division, helped build its investment business in Asia and led many of its most successful deals such as aerospace companies United Defense and Avio, and consultancy Booz Allen Hamilton. Clare retired in April 2023 after more than three decades with The Carlyle Group and was succeeded by Harvey Schwartz, a former Goldman Sachs executive.

Clare was a Founding Member of the firm's Asia Buyout team based in Hong Kong. He then served as the Global Head of the Aerospace & Government Services sector team.
In 2018, he became Co-Chief Investment Officer and in 2021 he was named Chief Investment Officer of Corporate Private Equity and Chairman of the Americas.
He has played a leading role in several of Carlyle’s most successful investments, including ARINC, Aviall Inc., Avio S.p.A, Booz Allen, Landmark Aviation, Standard Aero, United Defense Industries, Inc., and Wesco Aircraft.
EARLY CAREER
Prior to joining Carlyle, Clare was with First City Capital Corporation, a private equity group that invested in buyouts, public equities, distressed bonds, and restructurings.
Before that, he was with the Merchant Banking Group of Prudential-Bache.
