Will Thomson is the Founder and Managing Partner of Massif Capital, a value-oriented investment partnership based in Charlotte, NC. He has extensive experience in credit and political risk insurance, particularly in private equity, credit analysis, and government policy. Thomson is also well-versed in energy and mining. He combines a fundamentals-based approach with in-depth capital cycle analysis and a focus on the supply side constraints of commodity production to assess compelling investment opportunities.

Credit and Political Risk Underwriter at The Hanover Insurance Group

  • Co-managed and built a portfolio of credit and political risk insurance policies with a notional value of nearly $750 million.
  • Conduct credit risk assessments and design credit risk hedging strategies for project finance lenders operating in natural resources and infrastructure. 
  • Developed a comparable credit rating model which facilitates the rapid assessment of operating results, liquidity, and solvency of unrated emerging market companies.


Strategic Advisor at NATO/ISAF

  • Worked with Afghan Ministry of mines to develop extractive industries regulation, including copper mining and oil and natural gas industries.
  • Led NATO countercorruption planning for 2014 Afghan Presidential Election.


    Investment Banking at Banc of America Securities

    • Evaluated the long-term sustainability of Israeli-based natural resources projects for interested buyers.
    • Created business plans that established the goals and direction of the CIB Healthcare Information Technology and CIB Pharmaceutical Distribution sub-sectors.
