Charles Donovan is a Senior Economic Advisor at Impax Asset Management, responsible for deepening the firm's expertise in understanding the opportunities arising from a global economic transition. He also contributes to Impax's thought leadership initiatives and provides insights on North American policy developments. Donovan is a widely known and highly respected economist who has advised on alternative energy policy for both the private sector and the US government. Previously, he served as Professor of Practice at Imperial College London and Founding Executive Director of the business school's Center for Climate Finance and Investment. He was Head of Structuring and Valuation for Alternative Energy at BP, where he managed a team responsible for analysis and financing of large renewable energy projects in North America, Europe, and Asia. Donovan is co-author and editor of Renewable Energy Finance: Powering the Future. He also serves as a Visiting Professor of Sustainable Finance at the University of Washington in Seattle.

EARLY CAREER

  • Donovan served as Academic Co-Chair of the Coalition for Climate Resilient Investment.

  • At Imperial College, he also managed an interdisciplinary team of researchers analyzing climate-related financial risks in global capital markets.

  • He also led the development of a new green finance initiative in Asia, supported by the Monetary Authority in Singapore.

  • He began his career as an Energy Policy Analyst with the US Environmental Protection Agency during the Clinton Administration.

  • He subsequently worked in principal investments at the Enron Corporation.
