John Deaton, a former U.S. Marine and cryptocurrency attorney, is the Founder and Managing Partner of Deaton Law Firm, a law practice he founded in 2006. He is also the Founder and Host of CryptoLaw, a premiere source of information, news, and analysis on key U.S. legal and regulatory developments for digital asset holders. Throughout his career, he has earned a reputation as an aggressive but fair trial advocate. He tried cases against national defense lawyers, litigation firms, and high profile corporations. Recently, Deaton announced that he will be challenging Democratic U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren as she runs for her third term in office in Massachusetts. He announced his Republican Senate run on X (formerly known as Twitter). Deaton cast himself as a fighter for the working and middle classes.

  • Deaton is a Bitcoin, Ethereum, Ripple and cryptocurrency advocate.

  • He is perhaps best known for his dogged defense on behalf of digital asset holders across the globe. 

  • Deaton, often appearing on national cable news, gained significant notoriety related to his battle against the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on behalf of over 75 thousand retail holders of the digital asset XRP. 

  • His efforts in the case earned him an almost cult-like following within the crypto community, becoming something of a folklore hero. 


LAW CAREER

  • Deaton worked for a national plaintiffs’ firm, specializing in asbestos litigation, product liability, toxic torts, and personal injury before establishing DLF. 

  • He also served as one of the firm’s principal trial attorneys in New York, Rhode Island, and Connecticut

  • He tried cases against national defense lawyers, litigation firms, and high-profile corporations.

  • He served as a federal prosecutor and a criminal defense attorney for seven years of active duty.
