John White is Chairman, CEO, Co-Founder of Standard Renewable Energy Group, a private equity firm that makes early- to mid-stage equity investments in clean technology and renewable energy companies with growth potential. He is Managing Director at Kirchner Group’s Fund Advisory Services, which provides private equity and venture capital firms, as well as family offices and fundless sponsors, with a variety of services. John has over 40 years of experience as a lawyer and fund manager, spent in a variety of industry sectors with a focus on energy. He is board certified in civil trial law, has successfully prosecuted and defended high-dollar, complex business matters, and is a seasoned counselor to a variety of individuals and business entities, including major and independent oil companies, power generators and a diverse group of non energy related businesses, including alternative education and manufacturing. Prior to joining Kirchner Group, John has been a Partner in the Southern Funds Group where he oversaw investments in numerous sectors, including energy technologies and services, security and resilience systems for critical infrastructure, food security and agriculture, and industrials.
LEGAL CAREER
John began his legal career in 1973, starting as a JAG in the US Air Force then serving as inhouse counsel for Texaco.
He later worked in the private practice of law in Houston, Texas for over twenty five years.
He founded his own firm – Watt, White & Craig in 1981 – and from 1992 to 2003, he was a shareholder of the firm of Winstead Sechrest & Minick.
He was a Partner at Murphree Venture Partners where he provided strategic counsel and expertise to entrepreneurs in cleantech and renewable energy.
In 2009 John was recruited to head up the Wind Alliance, a Public/Private/ University Consortium.
John transformed the organization from its initial focus on the Texas wind industry to become nationally focused and recognized.
