Matthew Hudson
Matthew Hudson is an entrepreneurial lawyer, venture capitalist and builder of businesses. He is the Founder and CEO of MJ Hudson, a provider of full-range specialist advice and integrated services to the alternative asset management and investment industries. Through his leadership, MJ Hudson is now one of the largest independent regulatory platforms for asset management clients, especially alternatives. A lawyer by training, Matthew has more than 30 years of private equity experience advising businesses on alternative investments. He is a well-known industry figure and a regular speaker on new developments concerning the alternative asset industries. In addition, he authored the leading text of “Funds: Private Equity, Hedge and All Core Structures”, published by Wiley Finance.
Matthew is Chairman of MJ Hudson Fund Management, Senior Partner of the Law Firm, and also works within the other divisions.
As part of investment groups, he has also helped to build a number of software, financial and other services businesses – many of which have subsequently exited.
As part of law firms he has represented many of the larger private equity, venture capital, SWF or family office groups.
Matthew has helped build and manage four of the major Alternative Asset law firms:
Co-founded the Private Equity Group of SJ Berwin
Re-established the O’Melveny & Myers London office, the leading US west coast law firm
Created the London office for Proskauer, a leading east coast US firm
Further, Matthew has also worked in four Private Equity houses:
Leveraged buy-outs for a group built within CSFB
Founded Far Blue Ventures, the Venture Capital house, backing UP spin-outs from universities
Co-founded Tower Gate Capital, making small cap investments
Coller Capital, the global secondary firm
