Nick Cowan is the Group CEO of Valereum, a Gibraltar-based financial technology company that seeks to unlock capital and create value in tokenized digital markets. Cowan is a seasoned specialist in investment business with over 35 years of experience in capital markets. Prior to Valereum, he was the Founder and CEO of GSX Group and the Gibraltar Stock Exchange. He also had extensive experience at tier-one firms including Bear Stearns and ING Barings, where he served as Global Head of Equities and Equity Trading.
Cowan joined VLRM in 2024 after its acquisition of GSX in 2023.
The acquisition allowed for the integration of Valereum’s digital asset and blockchain technology with the exchange’s established market infrastructure.
GSX has been active in listing digital securities and tokens, reflecting its adaptation to emerging financial technologies and the growing interest in digital assets.
EARLY CAREER
At ING Barings, he managed up to 2,500 employees in 43 countries, including 40 stock exchange memberships.
He oversaw ING's trading, sales and research activities in cash equities, derivatives, convertible bonds, prime brokerage, and futures.
He was also accountable for ING's creation and implementation of global practices and prioritization of key clients of the bank.
During his tenure at ING, he served as a member of various committees within ING.
Before that, he was a Managing Director at Bear Stearns.
