Pete Briger is the Co-Founder and Head of Fortress Credit and Real Estate, the flagship division of Fortress Investment Group, a leading global investment management firm specializing in alternative assets.
He oversees the firm’s credit fund operations, including the Drawbridge Special Opportunities Funds, and directs opportunistic global investments in undervalued, distressed, and illiquid assets across diverse industries, asset classes, and geographies.
With more than 500 employees worldwide, the Fortress Credit & Real Estate division manages approximately $26 billion in assets under management (AUM).
Briger has served on the Board of Directors since 2006, was elected Co-Chairman in 2009, and has been a member of the Management Committee since 2002, contributing significantly to Fortress’s reputation as a global leader in credit, private equity, and real estate investing.
Before joining Fortress, Briger spent 15 years at Goldman Sachs, where he became a Partner in 1996 and held several senior leadership roles.
He served as Co-Head of the Whole Loan Sales and Trading business, Co-Head of the Fixed Income Principal Investments Group, Co-Head of the Asian Distressed Debt business, and Co-Head of the Goldman Sachs Special Opportunities (Asia) Fund LLC as well as the Asian Real Estate Private Equity business.
In addition, Briger was an active member of several key governance bodies at Goldman Sachs, including the Global Control and Compliance Committee, the Asian Management Committee, and the Japan Executive Committee, where he played a pivotal role in expanding the firm’s operations and investment footprint across Asian markets.
EARLY CAREER
Earlier in his career, Briger developed deep expertise in international finance and distressed debt through his advisory work with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and his service on the Board of Directors of CompuCredit Corporation.
