Tom Steyer is a renowned investor, business leader, environmental activist and philanthropist committed to fighting the climate crisis. He is the Co-Executive Chair of Galvanize Climate Solutions, a multi-strategy climate investment firm designed to deliver capital and expertise to accelerate climate solutions. He was the Founder and Managing Partner of Farallon Capital Management, a hedge fund that pioneered the multi-strategy approach to investing. Under his leadership, Farallon grew its assets from $6 million to $36 billion. Simultaneously, he was a Partner and Investment Committee member at Hellman & Friedman, a multi-billion dollar private equity firm. He stepped down in 2012 to focus on public service and philanthropy. Steyer is a climate champion who has been a driving force in the climate world, leading citizen campaigns and starting the largest youth mobilization in the country. He is a major donor to Democratic politicians and was a 2020 Democratic presidential candidate.

CLIMATE & PHILANTHROPY

  • After retiring from Farallon, Steyer dedicated himself to public service and philanthropy, with a focus on climate action.

  • He was the Founder of NextGen America, the largest youth voter mobilization organization in American history

  • He is also the Co-Founder of Beneficial State Bank, a triple bottom line community development financial institution founded in 2007 with over $1 billion in assets.

  • He helped make California the largest jurisdiction in the world with a 100% clean energy law and prevented Big Oil's effort to roll back the state's climate protections.

  • He worked to prevent the construction of a new, gas-fired power plant in a community largely made up of immigrants, people of color, and low-income families.


POLITICS

  • Steyer is a major donor to Democratic politicians and progressive causes. 

  • He was a 2020 Democratic presidential candidate and served as co-chair for Governor Newsom’s Business and Jobs Recovery Task Force.

  • He also co-chaired Vice President Biden’s Climate Engagement Advisory Council to help mobilize climate voters.
