Victor Haghani is Founder and Chief Investment Officer of Elm Partners, a research-driven wealth advisor and manager, and is known for his expertise in asset allocation and decision-making under uncertainty. He established the investment company in 2011 aiming to help himself and his friends manage their savings in an efficient and disciplined manner. Haghani has spent more than 40 years actively involved in markets and financial innovation. He has also been a prolific contributor to the academic and practitioner finance literature. Since 2006, his research has focused on asset allocation and low-cost wealth management strategies. In 1993, he co-founded Long-Term Capital Management with seven other founding members. He also lectured at the London School of Economics as a senior research assistant in the Financial Markets Group.
LTCM initially achieved remarkable success, but it suffered significant losses in 1998 due to the Russian financial crisis.
His participation in the failure of LTCM was a life-changing experience that led him to question and revise much of the way he thought about the economy, markets, and investing.
EARLY CAREER
He started his career in 1984 as a bond portfolio analyst at Salomon Brothers, and later became a Managing Director in the bond arbitrage group run by John Meriwether.
Haghani's time on the trading floor exposed him to the fast-paced, high-stakes world of fixed-income trading.
He actively participated in developing the firm's proprietary trading models, applying his mathematical and analytical talents to enhance Salomon Brothers' trading capabilities.
