Cam Harvey is a Distinguished Professor of Finance at the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University and a Research Associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research. He is a globally recognized expert in portfolio management, asset allocation, cost of capital, and global risk management. He has also served as a consultant or principal to some of the world's leading asset management and consulting firms. Harvey serves as a Partner and Senior Advisor at Research Affiliates, overseeing more than $180 billion in client funds, as well as Investment Strategy Advisor to the Man Group PLC, the world’s largest, publicly listed, global hedge fund provider. He has published over 150 scholarly articles on topics spanning investment finance, emerging markets, corporate finance, behavioral finance, financial econometrics and computer science. He is also a Founding Director of the Duke-CFO Survey. This widely watched quarterly survey polls over 1,500 CFOs worldwide.
ACADEMIA
Over the past eight years, Harvey has taught a course titled Innovation and Cryptoventures at Duke University. The course focuses on blockchain technology and decentralized finance.
He also teaches Tech Driven Transformation of Business, as well as International Finance. He offers a Coursera called Blockchain Business Models.”
He has served on the faculties of the Stockholm School of Economics, the Helsinki School of Economics, and the Booth School of Business at the University of Chicago.
He has also been a visiting scholar at the Federal Reserve Board of Governors.
He was awarded an honorary doctorate from Svenska Handelshögskolan in Helsinki, and is a fellow of the American Finance Association.
CONCEPTS
He introduced the concept that the term structure of interest rates could be a leading indicator of the business cycle in the US.
Academics, policy makers and practitioners refer to this concept on a regular basis.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, he shared real-time analyses of the rate of contagion, policy response, and impact on the economy and the financial system.

Harvey received the 2015, 2016, 2022 and 2023 Best Paper Awards from the Journal of Portfolio Management.
He has also received seven Graham and Dodd Awards/Scrolls for excellence in financial writing from the CFA Institute.
He has also received the James R. Vertin Award from the CFA Institute Research Foundation.
He was named "Quant of the Year" by the Journal of Portfolio Management in January 2021 for his outstanding contributions to the field of Quantitative finance.
