Cully Cavness is an energy entrepreneur and professional with a passion for innovative environmental solutions. Cavness is the Co-Founder, President, and Chief Operating Officer of Crusoe Energy Systems, an energy tech company that has become one of the largest privately-held crypto mining businesses in North America. At Crusoe, he has led the creation of a new category of energy and environmental service called Digital Flare Mitigation, which eliminates routine flaring of natural gas and reduces the cost of cloud computing. He has also held key roles in more than $500 million of fundraising with venture, project, and credit capital investors. Prior to launching Crusoe, he focused on energy tech and resource development, as well as investment banking. He was Vice President of Finance at Highlands Natural Resources, a private-equity exploration company, where he was responsible for commodities sales and marketing which exposed him to the industry’s challenges with flaring.
EARLY CAREER
Cavness was CFO at Sword & Plough, responsible for social enterprise supporting veteran employment.
He was an energy investment banker at Petrie Partners and a business development manager at Global Geothermal, a renewable power plant developer.
He was also an energy economics research fellow at Thomas J. Watson Foundation, where he did research into energy tech, economics, project development and financing in Iceland, China, Spain, and Argentina.
