John Embry is Chief Investment Strategist at Sprott Asset Management, a global asset manager providing investors with access to highly-differentiated precious metals and real estate investment strategies. He joined SAM in 2003 to lead the Sprott Gold and Precious Minerals Fund. He analyzes global macro issues and plays an instrumental role in the corporate and investment policy of the firm. Embry is an industry expert in precious metals, has researched the gold sector for over 40 years and has accumulated industry experience as a portfolio management specialist since 1963. Prior to joining SAM, he served as Vice President and Portfolio Manager of RBC, where he oversaw $5 billion in assets.
He joined SAM in 2003 focused on the Sprott Gold and Precious Minerals Fund.
He has been a Director of Sprott Resource Corp. since September 2007.
He served as a Director of Sprott Resource Lending Corp. since August 17, 2010.
At RBC, he was Vice President of Equities where he managed $5 billion in assets, including RBC Canadian Equity and RBC Precious Metals.
He oversaw the flagship $2.9 billion Royal Canadian Equity Fund and the $250 million Royal Precious Metals Fund.
Under his leadership, the Royal Precious Metals Fund was the #1 ranked fund in Canada for its 2002 net performance of 153%.
EARLY CAREER
Embry began his investment career as a stock selection analyst and portfolio manager at Great West Life, a major insurance company.
He later became Vice President of Pension Investments for the entire firm.
After 23 years with Great West, he became a partner with United Bond and Share, the investment counseling firm acquired by Royal Bank in 1987.
He has appeared in Bloomberg and Real Vision.
