Kerr Neilson is one of the godfathers of Australia's funds management industry. He is the Co-Founder and former CEO and Chairman of Platinum Asset Management, one of the first local investment houses to focus on global equities markets. He resigned from the board of Platinum in November 2022, four years after stepping down as Chief Executive. Neilson has over 40 years of experience in financial markets both in broking and funds management. He is known for his value-based contrarian stock picks that have earned him comparisons with Warren Buffett.
Neilson set up Platinum after a stellar career managing money at Bankers Trust. He established the firm in 1994 and took public in 2007.
He also served as the firm's Managing Director, Executive Director, and Chief Investment Officer.
He retired as the firm's Chief Executive in 2018, but still owns 126 million shares in the business worth around $234 million.

He managed the Research Department for a stockbroker in South Africa.
Upon moving to Australia, he joined Bankers Trust, where he made important contributions to the development of the company's retail funds management division.
Under his leadership, Bankers Trust's retail business became the growth engine of the firm managing money around the globe.
