Louis Bacon is recognized as a buttoned-up hedge fund king and a macro trading legend on Wall Street. He is the Founder, Chairman and Principal Investment Manager of Moore Capital Management, a leading private investment management firm. Under his leadership, MCM has been recognized as one of the largest and most successful hedge funds. Bacon is a conservation philanthropist who has dedicated more than two decades to protecting natural resources in the United States and abroad. Prior to MCM, he was a Senior Vice President at Lehman Brothers, and also held positions at Walter N. Frank & Co., a NYSE specialist firm, and Bankers Trust.

CAREER HIGHLIGHTS

  • Some of his most successful trades include predicting the 1987 market crash, shorting the S&P futures, and later, taking long positions when the market hit its bottom.

  • In 1989, shortly after establishing his hedge fund, he shorted the Japanese Nikkei index and returned 86% due to the Japanese market crash

  • He also predicted Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait and made big money on oil.

  • By 2019, his flagship, Remington funds, made a cumulative return of over 21,000%.

  • Bacon has received numerous honors for his commitment to conservation.

  • He is the Founder of The Moore Charitable Foundation which focuses on supporting conservation nonprofits. 

  • He was instrumental in founding the Waterkeeper Alliance, the largest and fastest growing nonprofit solely focused on preserving and protecting clean water.

  • He was the lead investor in The Forestland Group, a timberland investment management organization.
