Matthew Byer is an Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer at Spectrum Asset Management, one of the largest money managers in the world specializing in the preferred and capital securities market. Prior to joining Spectrum in 2007, he served as Vice President and Director of Investment Banking at AG Edwards where he served as a senior member of the Financial Services Group for 8 years. He was also head of the bank practice within the financial institutions and real estate group focused on banks and fintech companies. He began his career in 1991 as an Attorney with Armstrong Teasdale, where his practice included the representation of issuers and underwriters of preferred securities.
Byer joined Spectrum in 2007 and held the position of Senior Vice President with responsibilities for various areas of business and product development, client relations and asset management.
He was appointed Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer in 2010.
EARLY CAREER
Byer was President and COO of United Sports Equities, an independent professional baseball league and real estate development company.
At AG Edwards, he was also involved in public offerings and private placements of equity and debt securities and M&A transactions.
At Armstrong Teasdale, he was involved in corporate, securities, mergers and acquisitions, and real estate practices.
