Russ Brownback is Managing Director and Head of Global Macro Positioning for Fixed Income at BlackRock. He is a Co-Lead Manager of the BlackRock Strategic Global Bond Fund and other flexible global aggregate mandates, and a member of the Fundamental Fixed Income Executive Committee. Russ has over two decades of expertise in economic policy and financial market interface. He was one of the founding partners of R3 Capital, a hedge fund acquired by BlackRock. He has been an advisor to a number of Wall Street executives as well as officials sitting on the Federal Reserve and United States Treasury. He has also been an Adjunct Professor for both graduate and undergraduate studies at Syracuse University's Whitman School of Business.
He served as Managing Director and Proprietary Trader/Portfolio Manager for the Global Principal Strategies team at Lehman Brothers.
He was the Head of Lehman's Corporate and Emerging Markets bond trading desks and an industrial sector bond trader.
During his tenure, he also traded emerging markets and crossed over sovereign bonds.
Prior to joining BlackRock in 2009, he was a Senior Partner with R3 Capital Partners, a hedge fund he co-founded.
He has been an adjunct professor for both graduate and undergraduate studies at Syracuse University's Whitman School of Business.
