Sam Dogen is the mastermind behind Financial Samurai, one of the largest independently-run personal finance sites. As a finance veteran since 1999, he writes from firsthand experience to provide the most helpful insights possible. He tackles investing, real estate, retirement planning, career strategies, and more. He is one of the pioneers of the modern-day FIRE movement and the author of Buy This, Not That: How to Spend Your Way to Wealth & Freedom. Dogen spent 13 years working at Goldman Sachs and Credit Suisse, from which he retired at age 34. He has lived in seven countries and has traveled to over 60 countries so far.

  • Dogen was an Executive Director at Credit Suisse for over a decade. Before that, he was a Financial Analyst involved in international equities at Goldman Sachs.

  • He retired at 34 in San Francisco with over $3 million after 13 years of saving and investing.

  • He has been living off passive income from stocks, bonds and real estate since then. 

  • He returned to work after a decade, and retired again after four months.
