Lending is the temporary giving of money or property to another person with the expectation that it will be repaid. Similarly, it is the practice of giving cash or supplying goods or services, when the debt is repaid at a high rate of interest over a short period. Banks, building societies, insurance companies and credit unions are not considered moneylenders. In a business and financial context, lending includes many different types of commercial loans.
