Simon Ogus

CAREER

• Ogus originally trained as an actuary with William Mercer Fraser.

• He started covering Asia in the mid-1980s.

• He moved into funds management with the United Bank of Kuwait in London before joining GT Management in Hong Kong in 1990. 

• He joined Swiss Bank Corporation as Chief Economist in 1994 and was responsible for developing and leading the Bank’s macroeconomic research across Japan and Australasia.

• He has held academic positions and lectured at various regional universities. 

• He is well-known for his ability to deconstruct the politics, the history, and the sentiment of the Asian continent.

CURRENT APPOINTMENTS

• Ogus serves on the board of a number of companies and official bodies including the Council of Advisers for the Hong Kong Monetary Authority's Hong Kong Institute for Monetary Research, and the Board of Governors for the American Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong.
• He is an adviser to and a shareholder in the Silverhorn Group, a fully integrated wealth management boutique with a core focus on Asia.
• He serves as a member of the Advisory Board at Arowana.

Ogus was one of the few analysts to accurately predict the following global economic and financial crisis:

• the Asian financial crisis (1997);
• the emerging market crisis (1998);
• the US housing crisis (2007);
• the Global Financial Crisis (2008-2009); and
