Ari Paul is the Co-Founder and Chief Investment Officer of BlockTower Capital, a hedge fund focused exclusively on the cryptocurrency space. Paul began investing in cryptocurrency in 2014. He is a professional trader, portfolio manager, risk manager, and capital allocator to the digital asset industry. He has published papers on cryptocurrency lending, the history of money, and applying investment concepts to cryptocurrency. Before co-founding BlockTower Capital, Paul was a Portfolio Manager and Risk Specialist for the University of Chicago's $8 billion endowment portfolio. He also served as a Derivatives Market Maker and Proprietary Trader for Susquehanna International Group.
EARLY CAREER
Paul began his career in the financial services industry in 2006.
He was a Trader and Derivatives Market Maker with Susquehanna International Group, and then a proprietary derivatives trader until 2013.
At SIG, he served as a Market Maker and Proprietary Trader of options, commodities, forex, and power.
He managed a “tail-hedging” strategy via long volatility investments for The University of Chicago’s $8 billion Endowment.
He also worked with the Chief Risk Manager in risk management and analytics, and performed research on the characteristics of endowment investments and asset classes, including researching cryptocurrency.
He has previously invested in exchange traded cryptoassets, initial coin offerings, and other parts of the crypto and blockchain ecosystem.
