Chris Whalen is an investment banker, author, and Chairman of Whalen Global Advisors, where he focuses on the financial services, mortgage finance and technology sectors. He edits The Institutional Risk Analyst newsletter and contributes to other publications such as Zero Hedge, American Banker, Housing Wire and The National Interest. In addition to working as a banker and consultant, he writes a column for National Mortgage News that often delves into obscure areas of the fixed income and mortgage markets. Chris has over three decades of experience working as a writer and financial professional in Washington, New York, and London. He has held positions in organizations such as the House Republican Conference Committee, the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, Bear, Stearns & Co., Prudential Securities, and Carrington Mortgage Holdings.

He was the Co-Founder and Principal of Institutional Risk Analytics for a decade. He led IRA's advisory practice and consulted for global companies on a variety of financial and regulatory issues.
He was Managing Director at Bear Stearns and an investment banker in the M&A group.
He served on the Economic Advisory Committee of FINRA for over a decade.
