Eric Wallerstein is Special Advisor at The Council of Economic Advisers at The White House. Previously, he was Chief Market Strategist at Yardeni Research, a sell-side consulting firm, where he focused on macro and financial market research. Prior to joining YRI, he was a Reporter for The Wall Street Journal's finance bureau in New York, where he covered bonds, currencies, and global macroeconomic topics. He wrote often about interest rates and their impact on broader markets, along with the banking system, government policy and derivatives trading. Before joining the Journal, Eric was an analyst on the money markets desk of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.

EARLY CAREER

  • Eric wrote about Signature Bank's deposit losses and wobbles in the regional banking system in January 2023, a story that the bank publicly rebuked. 

  • He was among the first to explain the boom in short-term options trading and wrote features on how higher inflation is unraveling the classic 60-40 strategy.

  • While at the New York Fed, he covered funding markets during the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic and traded in the Federal Reserve’s open market operations.
