John Greenwood
John Greenwood is Chief Economist of Invesco. He is responsible for coordinating group macroeconomic research and for providing economic analysis and forecasts to the firm's portfolio managers and clients. One of his most notable achievements was the publication of his proposal on how to rescue the Hong Kong Dollar in 1983, which was adopted by the Hong Kong Government to link the HK$ to the US$ and is still in operation today. His articles have been published in a number of leading financial publications, including The Wall Street Journal and The Financial Times.

CAREER TIMELINE
- Greenwood did postgraduate economic research at Tokyo University from 1970 to 1974, learning Japanese at the same time.
- He started his career in 1974 as a Visiting Research Fellow at the Bank of Japan.
- He became Chief Economist with GT Management in 1974, initially based in Hong Kong then San Francisco.
- He was the Editor of the Asian Monetary Monitor from 1977 to 1996.
- He translated "Gendai Nihon Kinyuron" as "Money and Banking in Contemporary Japan" by Yoshio Suzuki from Japanese.
- His book "Hong Kong’s Link to the US Dollar" was published by Hong Kong University Press in 2007.
- He is a frequent guest speaker on radio and television and at conferences around the world.
AWARDS
- OBE in recognition of his standing as an economist and his professional contributions to the Hong Kong Government and public bodies (June 1994)
- Silver Bauhinia Star by the Hong Kong SAR government for his work in promoting the stability of the Hong Kong dollar (October 2020)
