Josh Lipsky is Director of GeoEconomics Center at Atlantic Council, a nonpartisan organization that promotes practical leadership and engagement in international affairs. Josh is a policy and communications expert with a rich history of work in international affairs and economics. He served as a Senior at the International Monetary Fund, a Speechwriter to Christine Lagarde, and a Special Advisor to the Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy. Prior to joining the State Department, he worked in the White House and was tasked with helping plan President Obama’s participation at the G-20 and other global summits. In addition, Josh is a term-member at the Council on Foreign Relations and an Economic Diplomacy Fellow at Harvard University’s Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs. In these roles, Josh has advised policymakers on a range of emerging challenges to the global economy, including trade wars, the reform of the Bretton Woods system, and the rise of digital currencies.

EARLY CAREER AND EXPERTISE

  • Josh led The White House and embassy staff around the world in coordinating international summits and overseas presidential travel.

  • He has also worked on Capitol Hill and at the Daily Show with Jon Stewart.

  • He worked as a National Press Advance Staff for Obama for America, and a News Assistant for CNN.

  • He was also a Legislative Researcher for Rep. Sam Farr at the U.S. Congress.

  • He has written about the need for countries to prioritize investments in sustainable and inclusive long-term growth.
