Marc Rowan is the Co-Founder and CEO of Apollo Global Management, one of the biggest U.S. private equity firms. He assumed the role of Apollo's CEO in 2021, and has overseen the firm's expansion into new asset classes and geographies. Rowan is a Wall Street titan and private equity veteran. He is also involved in public policy and is an initial funder and contributor to the development of the Penn Wharton Budget Model, a nonpartisan research initiative which provides analysis of public policy’s fiscal impact. He is an active philanthropist and serves on the boards of several tech-oriented venture companies. Recently, Rowan has been a top contender for the position of Secretary of the Treasury for the Trump administration.
APOLLO
Since becoming CEO in 2021, he has helped transform Apollo from a feared distressed-debt investor into a buzzy, money-spinning lending machine that rivals Wall Street banks.
He also ushered in an era of stability and prosperity after a tumultuous power struggle.
Under his leadership, assets have soared to US$733 billion (S$984.04 billion), and its stock has more than tripled.
EARLY CAREER
Rowan met Apollo cofounders Leon Black and Joshua Harris while working at investment bank Drexel Burnham Lambert's M&A division.
While at the investment bank, his responsibilities include high yield financing, transaction idea generation, and merger structure negotiation.
The trio formed Apollo in 1990 after Drexel filed for bankruptcy following a cash shortage caused by turmoil in the junk bond market.
