The European Council on Foreign Relations is an award-winning international think tank. Founded in 2007, ECFR is the first pan-European think tank that aims to conduct cutting-edge independent research on European foreign and security policy and provide a safe meeting space for decision makers, activists and influencers to share ideas. The organization performs research and stimulates debate on one overriding topic – the development of a coherent, effective, and values-based European foreign policy. Today, ECFR continues to build coalitions for change at the European level and promote informed debate about Europe’s role in the world. The organization has a network of offices in seven European capitals, over 60 staff from more than 25 different countries and a team of associated researchers in the EU 28 member states.

ABOUT ECFR

  • In 2007, ECFR’s founders set about creating a pan-European institution that could combine establishment credibility with intellectual insurgency.

  • ECFR has brought together a team of distinguished policy entrepreneurs to link cutting edge research to practical pan-European policy.

  • Their research is presented through five programs: Africa, Asia, Middle East and North Africa, Wider Europe and the European Power program.

ECFR REGIONS PROGRAMS

The program analyzes the geopolitics of the Africa-Europe relationship, delving into relations between the African Union and the European Union to find creative foreign policy tools and strategies.

The program seeks to help Europe recalibrate its relationship with China and its Asian partners. It primarily analyzes China's domestic situation, its role in the region, and its increasing global influence.

  • European Power.

It is focused on helping Europeans develop sustainable policy solutions to the issues affecting the European Union's capacity to act with unity on the global scene.

It works with European and regional governments, local voices, and civil society to advance channels of dialogue as well as providing direct policy prescriptions.

It seeks to strengthen transatlantic relations by exploring the obstacles to a more balanced partnership and developing ideas to overcome them.

It aims to help the European Union defend its interests and values in the Western Balkans, Turkey, Russia, and Eastern Europe, as well as the South Caucasus and Central Asia.
