David Duong is Head of Institutional Research at Coinbase, where he leads the cryptocurrency research efforts for the clients by creating educational materials and market intelligence for the asset management community. His work focuses on market views, macro trends, tokenomics and systematic trading strategies. Prior to Coinbase, Duong was Head of Latin America FX Strategy and Research at HSBC, responsible for managing research coverage for emerging markets. He also published macro views and trade ideas for both HSCB's institutional and corporate clients. Duong spent over 15 years working in rates, macroeconomics and quantitative modeling. He was Vice President and Senior Latin America Rates Strategist at Santander, with focus on Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Chile and Argentina. With a combination of model design and quantitative analysis, he developed research and trade ideas for Santander's institutional clients based on the macroeconomic outlook for the region.
EARLY CAREER
At HSBC, he conducted statistical and econometric analyses, and synthesized complex and diverse data to forecast investment scenarios and recommendations.
He was a Latin American Fixed Income Strategist at Deutsche Bank, covering emerging markets sovereign debt markets, government bonds, and FX options.
He also helped develop a model for trading pure volatility instruments based on underlying Latin American and Eastern European currencies for Deutsche Bank.
He was a Research Consultant for ICF International, where he designed a trading platform for estimating the relative costs of alternative strategies.
