Gareth Murphy is the Chief Risk Officer of abrdn, a global investment company and asset manager. Prior to joining abrdn, he spent 6 years as Director of Markets Supervision at the Central Bank of Ireland, where he oversaw Irish investment firms, fund service providers, funds and securities markets. Simultaneously, he was a member of the Board of Supervisors of the European Securities and Markets Authority, and Chair of its Investment Management Standing Committee, overseeing the coordination of regulatory implementation and supervisory convergence agenda in investment management in Europe. Murphy spent 13 years in the investment banking and hedge fund industries. He was a Partner at the now defunct Castlegrove Capital Management, and Co-Head of European Equity Flow Derivatives at JP Morgan.
EARLY CAREER
Murphy was a Senior Advisor at Bank of England, focused on Bank resolution, securitization, contingent convertible bonds, hedge funds, and insolvency laws.
He focused on equity derivative value opportunities at Castlegrove and was Co-Head of Flow equity derivatives at JP Morgan.
At Long Term Capital Management, he was involved in volatility and capital structure arbitrage and fixed income risk infrastructure.
