Thomas Mayer is a renowned financial expert and Founding Director of the Flossbach von Stoch Research Institute, one of the leading independent asset managers in Europe. He is a Senior Fellow at the Center of Financial Studies at Goethe Universität Frankfurt, where he is involved in research on European financial integration and current financial market issues. He also organizes the CFS Lecture Series “On the Order of Money”. Previously, Mayer served as Chief Economist of Deutsche Bank Group and Head of Deutsche Bank Research, where he advised Deutsche Bank’s management and key clients. Before that, he worked at Goldman Sachs, Salomon Brothers, the International Monetary Fund and the Kiel Institute for the World Economy. His book “Europe’s Unfinished Currency: The Political Economics of the Euro” was published in October 2012 by Anthem Press and won praise from central bankers and policy makers.

EARLY CAREER
Mayer was Chief European Economist at Deutsche Bank in London and Co-Head of the Deutsche Bank’s Global Economics Group.
Before joining Deutsche Bank, he worked for Goldman Sachs in Frankfurt and London, and for Salomon Brothers in London.
Before moving to the private sector, he held positions at the International Monetary Fund (1983-1990) and the Kiel Institute for the World Economy (1978-1982).
He is a CFA Charterholder since 2003 and an Honorary Professor at the University of Witten-Herdecke since 2015.

He has also published numerous articles on international and European economic issues in professional journals.
