Dmitry Balyasny
Dmitry Balyasny is the Founder, Managing Partner, and Chief Investment Officer of Balyasny Asset Management, one of the world’s leading multi-strategy hedge funds. As a veteran investor with more than 25 years of hedge fund experience, he chairs BAM’s Investment Committee and oversees the firm’s global Equities Long/Short business. Widely regarded as a prominent figure in the alternative investment industry, Dmitry is known for his skill in building scalable multi-manager platforms, cultivating talent, and driving innovative investment strategies. He began his career in 1994 as a Trader at Schonfeld Securities before launching BAM, which has since grown into one of the largest and most sophisticated multi-strategy asset managers globally. In addition to his leadership at the firm, Dmitry is active in philanthropy, supporting initiatives focused on expanding access to education, advancing public health, and strengthening the communities where BAM operates.

Dmitry Balyasny founded Balyasny Asset Management (BAM) in 2001 with a mission to deliver consistent, alpha-driven returns across market cycles through a diversified multi-strategy, multi-portfolio-manager platform.
Under his leadership, BAM has evolved from a small Chicago-based long/short equity operation into a global institutional investment firm employing more than 1,900 professionals across 20 offices in North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.
Today, BAM manages a comprehensive suite of investment strategies—including Equities Long/Short, Macro, Equities Arbitrage, Credit, Commodities, Systematic, and Growth Equity—supported by advanced data infrastructure, rigorous risk management, and a collaborative multi-manager framework.
The firm’s global expansion and diversified strategy set reflect Dmitry’s focus on scalable alpha generation and robust downside protection.
