Dmitry Balyasny is the Founder, Managing Partner, and Chief Investment Officer of Balyasny Asset Management, one of the world's biggest multi-strategy hedge funds. An active risk taker, he chairs BAM's Investment Committee and leads the firm's Equities Long/Short business globally. Dmitry is a hedge fund legend and has been an active investor in hedge funds for over 25 years. He began his career as a Trader at Schonfeld Securities in 1994. In addition to his corporate responsibilities, Dmitry is involved in a variety of philanthropic activities in his local community as well as in communities where BAM operates. He is involved in a variety of philanthropic organizations working to promote access to education and improve public health.

Academic History

Dmitry founded the firm in 2001 focused on delivering consistent, alpha-driven returns in all market environments through a multi-strategy, multi-PM approach.
Under his leadership, the firm now employs more than 1,900 people across 20 offices in the U.S. and Canada, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.
The firm’s investment teams span six strategies, including Equities Long/Short, Equities Arbitrage, Macro, Commodities, Systematic, and Growth Equity.

PHILANTHROPY

Dmitry is involved in a variety of philanthropic organizations working to promote access to education and improve public health.
He helps to promote the educational and public outreach activities of the Institute throughout the greater Chicago area.
Under his leadership, BAM launched the ATLAS Fellows program, which opens doors for brilliant and under-resourced high school students interested in careers in finance.
He also supports the Ayn Rand Institute and a number of other education-focused philanthropic initiatives.
